After the tremendous success of its commercial vehicles Ace and Ace magic, Tata Motors have launched the smaller Ace Zip and Magic Iris. Both vehicles are targeted at the product space right now occupied by small and medium three-wheelers. The Magic Iris is a people carrier and can seat three people in the back and one passenger and driver in the front. The Tata Ace Zip on the other hand is micro truck with a play load of up to 600kg.

Tata claims that both these vehicles have the potential have the potential to revolutionize the entry-level commercial vehicle segment and especially usurp the three-wheeler market in the rural and the semi urban areas. Tata motors are on the front foot on claiming necessary permits from state RTOs, which will allow the Tata Magic Iris to ply side by side with the current three-wheelers. Dedicating these vehicles to the nation, Tata Motors wants to improve the present conditions of public transport by offering better safety and comfort in these vehicles.

Both Vehicles are unique in their respective segments as they set new standards in driver comfort and reliability. Both Vehicles run rear mounted liquid-colled 611cc diesel engines that make 11PS of power and 31 Nm of torque, which is delivered at low revs. They have both been designed keeping in mind the safety of all on board. The chassis overhand in front and the cross beams in the doors on the side will protect occupants in case of a side impact. Aside from this all seats are provided with seat belts, a first in this segment. Both vehicles have independent suspensions all around and run on 12 inch radial tyres. Both Vehicles have been tested extensively in urban, semi urban and rural areas in all kinds of terrain and have received good response. The Tata Magic Iris Price is  Rs. 1.95 lakhs and the Tata Ace Zip price is Rs.1.90 Lakh.

Over 5,000 vehicles are stolen in Mumbai every year and less than 600 recovered. The Home Minister has now told the transport  department not to issue fresh registrations to vehicles without the device           

With car thefts on the rise and recovery statistics falling alarmingly, the government is on the verge of making GPS trackers mandatory in all four-wheelers registered in the state. Home Minister RR Patil, after reviewing motor-vehicle theft numbers (on an average 2,000 are stolen in Mumbai each year and only 600 found), has asked the Transport Authority to not issue registration papers for all new cars not fitted with a global positioning system. He has asked for rules to be framed in this regard, and for them to be implemented at the earliest. A GPS tracker, not to be confused with a GPS navigator installed for the drivers’ convenience, costs approximately Rs 4,000. It maps the latitude and longitude of the vehicle at all times, and relays that information to owners on their mobile phones via sms. Car theft statistics reveal that some luxury four-wheelers, such as the Scorpio and the Pajero, are the favourites of thieves, who sell them with forged documents in some states in northIndia. “We’ve been demanding that the five BMC octroi posts in Mumbai be equipped with CCTV cameras so that any vehicle being moved out could be captured on CCTV along with its driver. But the response from BMC has been lukewarm. Hence we want car owners to take initiative and install GPS,” said an officer from the Traffic police, who asked not to be named. working-of-a-car-GPS-tracker Police sources said car thieves had been improvising their modus operandi and skills, making it difficult to trace stolen vehicles. “There are multiple gangs involved nowadays in the process. So even if we catch one, the remaining leads cannot be traced,” he added. Mumbai Police had written to prominent car manufacturers last year, asking them to take certain precautions regarding the lock and keys of cars. But the car manufacturers did not revert back to them. Cops said another problem was lack of support from insurance companies, which paid the owners in cases of theft and did not bother to pursue tracing the stolen car. Two months ago, approximate 250 cars from across Maharashtra were recovered in Rajasthan, but only a handful were claimed by insurance firms. Apart from cars, 3,000 two-wheelers are stolen in the city each year, and only 1,000 are found.Transport Commissioner Dilip Jadhav, in a high-level meeting with the Chief Minister all evening, was unavailable for comment.  How GPS tracker works  • The device captures the GPS location information apart from other vehicle information at regular intervals to a central server. • If the vehicle is stolen, you and cops can locate your car from any computer with an Internet connection. • You can even immobilise your car sitting on a computer from anywhere in the World. • The other vehicle information of a GPS device include fuel amount, engine temperature, altitude, door open/close, tire pressure, cut off fuel, battery status, and a lot more

New Hyundai Verna vs Honda City

The new Verna's 121bhp may not seem all that much more than Honda City's 116bhp of muscle. But to a petrol-head, each bhp counts. Bragging right apart, how does the new 1.6 liter petrol Verna compare to the reigning king of petrol midsized?.

Speed:

The Verna's 1591cc Gamma motor is all new. It is unquestionably redefined and it does get quite entertaining after 4000rpm. But the City isnt' the default choice for rev junkies for no reason. Balancing Act:
Where the City feels a league above the Verna is in the driving experience. The Honda  has struck a fine balance between  ride and handling here. Low speed ride is only good with sharp bumps which make you feel their presence. The sightly stiff suspension means that the car doesn't get ruffled by the rough stuff even at speed. On the other hand, the new Fluidic Verna's' soft suspension and lifeless steering takes much fun out of the hard driving. However its tyres do offer good level s of grip. To be fair Verna is a car more suited for weekly grind than the sunday sprint.

Interiors: 
Step inside and you can understand the orientation of two cars. The city has typical Honda sporty driving position which gives you a great view of the road ahead over the low dash. All controls falls easily to hand and the chunky steering is great to hold. The swooping dashboard design is nice. The silver finish on the center console looks cheap on this class of car. The cabin is also nosier than the Verna's and doesn't  insulate you as well from engine, road and tyre noise. The Verna's insides are lot more plusher and those wanting that big car feel will really take to the car. Both cars have spacious cabins but the lack of under-thigh support on the Verna's seats does put the Hyundai New Verna at the disadvantage. City feels airier due to large windows.

Best among New Hyundai Verna and Honda City:
Talking looks, this is an evenly matched battle. The Honda city may be over two years old but still manages to grab your attention. Its narrow-like front and large headlights really draws you to it.  But where Honda City is about Simplicity, the New Hyundai FluidicVerna is high street fashion. It has cuts and creases at all the right places to make it a really standout design.  And Finally we get to the price. The City manual range starts at Rs. 8.15 lakh( ex- showroom) to Rs. 9.45 lakh for the higher end Vspec model. Hyundai has prices the manual Verna petrol very competitive with prices ranging from Rs 7.64 lakh to Rs 8.94 Lakh. The verna packs in a whole lot of kit for the money and instantly makes for the more sensible choice. When you buy a petrol midsizer the driving experience is the key deciding factor. , the City stands head and shoulders abouve the Verna.

So as far as the petrol mid-sizer go, the Honda City is till king of the Hill.

Launch control, Low Speed Assistance and an M-specific gear lever help put the power to the rear wheels. One thing BMW has not mentioned is availability of a manual transmission. 

Specially tuned steering works with the car’s Dynamic Damper Control and stability control with its own M Dynamic tuned mode and an M-specific active electronic locking rear differential to make the best of handling via electronic aids.

Myvi 2011 launched @PWTC

the Perodua Myvi five-door hatchback has been replaced by a new model that promises better safety, fuel efficiency and a string of new enhancements.

Launched by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin here last night, the new Myvi is available in six variants with prices between RM43,900 and RM57,400 some RM500 to RM700 more than the previous model.

Buyers can choose between three grades of Standard, Premium and Elegance and transmission type of four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual.

 At the back, the car gets sleeker LED combination lamps.

On the outside, the height of the car is 5mm lower at 1,545mm than the old Myvi while the width has been retained at 1,665mm. The new Myvi is shorter in overall length by 60mm, and the sleeker front and rear bumpers make it look more compact.

Turning radius remains the same at 4.7m to ensure easy parking in tight spaces, easy cornering and U-turns and better maneoverability.

Buyers of the new Myvi will find the cabin a revelation.

The interior length is 15mm more than the old Myvi and this translates to extra legroom. In addition, the front-rear couple distance is 4mm more, resulting in more rear legroom for better comfort. On the other hand, the driver-passenger couple distance remains the same at 680mm.

 

Perodua engineers have managed to tweak the existing 1.3-litre engine for extra performance and the adoption of electric power steering plus improved aerodynamics all aid to make the car achieve more power while giving better mileage.

On the outside, the new Myvi has a deeper sloping bonnet and an air spat on the front bumper to make the car more fluid. Downward scoop accentuates the new projector headlamps.
